The Ocean Grove Cricket Club is preparing for the coming 2021-2022 cricket season.
Since the AGM the club has been busily preparing for the 2021-22 Season, in amongst some changes in key personnel. I would like to thank John Giuffrida for taking on the role of Vice President, Lindon Giuffrida for taking on the role of Treasurer and Paul Madden for taking on the role of Secretary for the upcoming season. I would also like to welcome to the general committee Daniel Roddis, Shaun Fankhauser, Dylan Thorley and Jacob Taylor, as well as welcome back for his 300th year on the committee, Peter Fankhauser.
After a thorough process we are pleased to announce that Paul Jubber will be taking on the role of Senior Men’s Cricket Coach for season 2021-22. It will be his 8th season as the head coach. We are also pleased to announce the appointment of Patrick McKenna as Assistant coach and A1 Grade captain for the upcoming season. We are also delighted to announce the appointment of a Junior Development Coach and welcome to the club Robert Rutley. Robert comes to us after an impressive career in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association, claiming no less than 3 senior premierships and 5 club championships for 3 different clubs which he both coached and captained ( Douta Stars Cricket Club, Airport West Cricket Club, East Keilor Cricket Club). Robert also played for Essendon Cricket Club in the first 11 for 2 Seasons. He has taken on the role to help develop the younger members of the squad. See the position description.
To coach and monitor the progress of our young players that attend senior training (U/15 and u/17)
To oversee the coaching of the junior coaches at the club. Providing them with basic skills and drills to use with their junior teams
To coordinate a roster of senior players to attend junior training sessions.
To work with the senior coach in developing future senior cricketers
To be the conduit between the senior and junior clubs as players transition into senior cricket
That you attend senior training on Thursdays to cater for the bigger numbers due to the U/15’s and u/17’s training with the senior club.
Be a resource and be available for the junior coaches to access. Attend junior squad trainings U/11, U/13, U/15, U/17 when you feel it necessary.
We have scheduled a Men’s cricket players meeting for Friday 30th July from 6pm at the Shell Road Pavilion, and preliminary talks have begun with a club about a potential practice match on Saturday 11th September.
Further announcements will be made in the next few weeks regarding women’s cricket and both girls and boys junior cricket sign up and come and try days. Look out around town and on social media for further updates as the season gets closer.
